Harvey House, founded by Fred Harvey in 1870, was the first restaurant chain in America. These hotel/restaurant chains were found along the Santa Fe Railroad for the railway's tired and hungry travellers. The chain become known for it's quality hospitality services and (starting in 1883) the employeement of young female staff members known as "Harvey Girls".
